Call for Submissions: Short Plays

Luna Stage is now accepting submissions for its 7th Annual New Moon Short Play Festival. The three-day festival draws on Luna's resources as a professional regional theatre to support New Jersey playwrights, showcase local actors, spark meaningful conversation, and build community.

The selected plays will be presented at Luna at one of the three evenings, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, May 20-22, at 7:30PM. Each evening will culminate in a talk-back with the playwrights. Wednesday, May 22 will be an evening dedicated to plays written by area high school students.

Adult and high school playwrights of all career levels may submit short plays between 5-10 minutes in length, or monologues of up to five minutes in length. Playwrights must be based in New Jersey to be eligible and may only submit one play each for consideration.

Submission deadline is March 8. Selected plays will be announced by April 15. Please click the button below to submit your script.

Open Submission Policy

Thank you so much for your interest in Luna Stage. This summer, Luna welcomed a new Artistic Director, Ari Laura Kreith. Over the next season, we look forward to building a new shared understanding of Luna Stage under Ari's leadership. This will include spending time to better understand and articulate what we are looking for in the plays we will develop and produce in the future.

Therefore, to best honor everyone's time and work, we are choosing to take a season hiatus from our open submission policy while we undertake this exploration: we will not be accepting new scripts at this time. Please plan to check back in with us in September of 2019 for an update on our submission policies.

If you previously fit our submission guidelines and are having a reading or production of your work, please feel free to send us an invitation at

We thank you for your interest, and we hope to see you at Luna Stage this season!
