No Candy

by Emma Stanton

She dreams of Julie Andrews; She sings late-night karaoke to strangers; She allows the ghost of her husband to stay a little while in her home. A multi-generational community of Bosnian Muslim women cope with the trauma of war both privately and publicly while running a gift shop near the Srebrenica memorial. NO CANDY is about how trauma inhabits the body and shapes a community - and about the persistence of humor, art, and absurdity in an unimaginable time.
